Christmas Surprise for Gharb Residents and Visitors

During the last weekend of 2008, on the occasion of the Christmas celebrations, the Gharb Local Council on the initiative of Mayor David Apap gave a Christmas surprise to the residents and visitors.
The surprise event was held on Sunday 28th December morning when the Big Friends Guggen Musik Band amused the general public by playing Christmas music around the main streets of Gharb. This was the band’s first performance in Gozo since its formation a few months ago.
Various locals and tourists gathered in the streets to listen to the band’s performances. One particular attraction which drew the interest of all those present was that the musicians wore Christmas costumes. In fact these new costumes were prepared purposely to be worn by the musicians during Christmas activities.
The band expressed its gratitude to Mayor David Apap and the Gharb Local Council for the invitation which gave this band the opportunity to perform for the first time in Gozo.
The ‘Big Friends Guggen Musik band’ is the first guggen band in Malta composed of brass and percussion instruments. Some of the instruments being played by the 32 musicians are trumpets, trombones, euphoniums, sousaphone, cymbal, drums and drum kits and other percussions.
