In November 2007, The Gharb Local Council embarked on a new twinning initiative. This time Gharb have concluded a Town Twinning Oath with Castrolibero (Italy) where it was promised…. To maintain permanent bonds among the two municipalities, to promote exchanges of all kinds between the inhabitants of the two localities with the aim of fostering, through a greater mutual understanding, the true spirit of European brotherhood. To combine our efforts in order to further, to the greatest extent within our power, European unity, as an essential undertaking for peace and prosperity. The Italian Mayor said during his meeting with the Maltese, ‘it is important to create network between the cities of Europe and the world because each encounter may actually promote interaction between people belonging to different realities’. "Only in this way - he explained, citizens may be the first authors of a democratic Europe that is not built with a pencil coup but that poses as a prerequisite intercultural dialogue’. This cultural exchange promoted by the President of the sports and leisure Commission, Francesco Manna, was born from the will of the Council to create alliances with people of other nations.

The objectives of the twinning from the Gharb Local Council’s end are:-
  • To Explore new possibilities of cooperation as regards new proposals for EU funding for projects.
  • To Promote exchanges of a cultural and educational nature.
  • Promotion of the locality as a tourist destination and promotion of local products abroad.

During the encounter an exhibition of local crafts from Ta’ Dbiegi Crafts Village and other Gozitan crafts was held.
  • Family Mifsud from Gharb -
Family Mifsud from Gharb has won the prestigious title ‘Familja Qalb tad-Deheb 2008’ after being nominated by the Gharb Local Council for the yearly contest organized by Cana Movement. Family Mifsud was awarded the ‘Familja Qalb tad-Deheb’ shield from H.E. Dr Edward Fenech Adami President of Malta during a soiree held at Palazzo Palina ta’ Cent Hotel on Saturday 26th January, 2008.
