Visit of the French Ambassador at Gharb
The Gharb Local Council is working on a twinning initative with the French locality of La Gaude. Infact on Saturday 4th August the French Ambassador for Malta Mr. Jean-Marc Rives paid an official visit to the Gharb Local Council. Later the Ambassador made the Official opening of the Art Exhibition ‘Rebirth’ by French artist Mr. Raphael Labro, who was born and raised in La Gaude and is now a permanent resident at Gharb. The occasion included also the Tree For Gharb campaign, where the French Ambassador donated a tree to Gharb which he himself planted at Gharb Road. Other two trees were planted by the Mayor of Gharb Mr. David Apap and the artist Mr. Raphael Labro on behalf of La Gaude Mayor who could not be present for the occasion. The Art Exhibition is being held at the Sinclair Stevenson Art Gallery, in Trux Street, Gharb. In the near future a delegation composed by members of the Gharb Local Council and those from La Gaude Council will be visiting each other to discuss the possibilities of a twinning agreement. Information about La Gaude La Gaude is a small village found in the South of France, one of its borders being the Mediterranean Sea. The population of La Gaude is of approximately 6542. Similar to Gharb, this locality enjoys beautiful and sunny temperatures and tranquility. It is for this reason that this place is sought after by tourists who are in search of a relaxed holiday. Although in this locality we find a lot of farmers who grow the typical products of the place, this locality has moved on with the new technologies found in today’s life. We can find, that La Gaude has a lot of activity as regards technology and data processing starting from IBM. One can also find important factories in the area. And at the end, one cannot forget that this locality has a nursery, two primary schools and three colleges. Various associations organise cultural and sports activities throughout the year for the residents. La Gaude, ground of traditions, develops harmoniously with modernity, without losing its identity and the quality of its environment. .
